SQL VERSION OVERVIEW

The SQL release is a vital part of the future of the PTS product line. One of the many challenges was optimizing the software to take advantage of the power of MS SQL. This meant that each component had to be tested and in many cases redesigned for SQL. A major enhancement to all modules in SQL was a full integration into MS Office for forms, spreadsheets, and will allow us to take advantage calendaring and e-mails as we move forward. This was initially implemented in Court and includes all sorts of neat functions for users to change data formats like dates, address, etc.

The Mobile System has been stabilized, enhanced, sped up, and has new features. Mobile data, AVL, and Mapping are all vital parts of the next generation of CAD products.

SQL OPERATIONS UPDATE

There are significant new features in the SQL version and they will continue as we go forward. Beginning in the second quarter of this year we start on site upgrades for every client to the latest TPS version or the SQL version. SQL must be contracted for in terms of upgrades and has hardware and license ramifications as indicated below.

Beginning with the next release the TPS version will not have any further enhancements that involve the addition of data fields. We will be phasing the TPS version out over the next several years and moving all clients to the SQL product. Please plan for this transition to insure maintenance of the most robust functionality of your application software.

Before moving to SQL an agency will have to review the hardware requirements needed for SQL. Microsoft SQL takes much more memory to run efficiently than does your current top speed database. We recommend that an agency have at least 4 GB of RAM on the server that will be running the SQL. There is also a cost of the SQL Server License and a conversion fee that will be required to be purchased by the agency. Contact PTS before you purchase your license. We offer the SQL license at an imbedded price in cooperation with Microsoft. This can significantly lower your cost. We have just finished our new in-line mobile client software. The new mobile client has a streamlined look and we are very excited about the future of our mobile data products. Initial reports from the field indicate a significant increase in overall performance.

We have recently added a new, optional NCIC interface in conjunction with the mobile client. This new interface will allow officers to get driver photo’s returned on drivers license checks if they are available in your state. There is an additional cost to upgrade to the interface.
